Safety.

General safety

• Learn to swim

• Wear flotation suits /life jackets

• Where possible do not fish alone

• Make known your whereabouts and expected return time

• Carry simple first aid kit / learn basic first aid skills

• Take sufficient food and drink for the trip / avoid alcohol

• Advise committee of existing medical conditions ,which may be relevant to your overall safety [heart ,diabetes ,epilepsy etc]

• Advise a fellow member if you feel unwell 

• Dress for the weather /take care in the sun

• Allow plenty of time for travel /don't race

• Carry a few bin bags/ torch/ whistle/ mobile phone

Shore

• Do not fish a new venue alone or into the dark the first time

• Be aware of the tide and weather conditions at all times [ask local advice]

• Do not risk being cut off by the tide

• Do not wade if possible/ watch out for heavy undertow in surf

• Ensure casting style will not endanger others or property

• Ensure shock leader is sufficient for weight [10 lb/ oz of lead]

• Renew shock leader every trip

• Check all components for corrosion and renew as required

• Ensure the safety and well being of others at all times

• Use suitable footwear on rocks

• Carry secondary form of lighting for night venues

• Keep knives in their sheaths when not in use
